Oprah Winfrey is one of the most influential women in the world, but she wasn’t born into a life of power and influence. Born into poverty in rural Mississippi and raised in a challenging environment, Oprah faced numerous hardships, including abuse and neglect. Despite these obstacles, she envisioned a better life for herself and pursued it with relentless determination. Oprah eventually became one of the most influential women in the world, building a media empire and using her platform to inspire and uplift others.

Her life story is a testament to the power of vision and determination. Oprah herself believes in the power of vision, as reflected in her quote:

"Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life,

because you become what you believe."

I am a firm believer in having a vision, dreams, and goals for your life. From a very young age, my dad taught me about the importance of having a vision and putting it on what is commonly called a vision board. Without realizing the power behind a vision board, I did it simply because "my dad said so." I used to be completely blown away when everything I believed for on my vision board came true. And, of course, the more it worked, the more I believed in it—today, more than ever. Is it magic? Not at all. Maybe I thought so when I was much younger, but in reality, it is biblical. God wants us to have a vision for our lives—a God-breathed vision. Think about it this way: you were part of God’s vision, and here you are today, alive and well.

What’s the secret behind a vision board, and why does it work? The “secret” is found in Habakkuk 2:2-3. God tells us to write the vision down (make a vision board) and make it clear. And just like when I was a little girl, we should do it because our heavenly Father says so. Once written down, it doesn’t stop there. In Mark 11:24, God says, “Whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

You’ve written it down and asked God for the things you are believing for—now believe you have them, and act as if you have them. As a side note, it is always great to have pictures attached to the things you want; it makes visualizing them so much easier.

Practically, you don’t always have to have a big cardboard and cut-out pictures. In today’s technologically advanced world, you can create something digitally and keep it on your phone. I have my vision board as my wallpaper, and every day when I check my phone, I am reminded of the dreams and goals I have for my life, and I thank God for them.

There’s so much more to say on this topic, but I’ll leave that for the next blog.

You’ve got nothing to lose by giving this a try, but so much to gain from it.

Start dreaming, and write down those visions and goals. They are all within your reach.
